Statement of Intent

Well, I must have enjoyed my level 1 course as I am here again. All that I can say is that I must have enjoyed the sleepless nights worrying about assignments.

This time, I have chosen to do the Level 2 Certificate in Specialist Photography and Presentation.
The mandatory units are:-

Unit 211:- Photo Image Presentation

The optional unit that I have chosen are:-

Unit 208:- Principles of Location Photography

The 2 themes that I have chosen for Unit 208 are:-

Nature & Reportage

For Nature, I have been thinking of water, insects, trees or clouds.

For Reportage, I am going on holiday in April to Florida, so I was thinking of using the Disney theme, Disney characters, the castle, the fireworks and the parades.

My reasons for selecting these themes are that I love nature and nature photography.  I like to see macro photography of insects and flowers and also raindrops on plants, frost on trees, waterfalls and sunlight shining through landscapes.  For the reportage, I am looking forward to taking images of the daily routine in the world of Disney.  Having never been to Florida before, I'm not sure what to expect in relation to location, people, what goes on etc, all i have in my mind at the present time is Mickey Mouse and princesses.

I am hoping to use light to my advantage especially with my Disney theme.  I have been informed to go into Disney as early as possible as apparently when the early morning mist lifts around the Disney castle, it gives a fantastic image as you can see the top of the castle and it looks all mysterious.  I also need to be going in at night as they have a fantastic firework display and fireworks are something that I would love to capture properly.  For nature photography, the only light that I would use at the present time would be natural light and sunlight.  You can get some fantastic results of raindrops when the sunlight shines on them.  This also applies to landscape images with sunlight shining through trees.

Nature Images

The above are the images in which I am interested.  I like to photograph insects, colourful flowers, birds, capturing water drops or frost on trees, fireworks, lightening.....bit of a long shot I know, the list is endless really.  The macro lens is my favourite lens at the present time, followed by the 18-105mm lens.

Disney Images

There's going to be so much going off inside Disney, I'll probably wander off in my own world, taking images and then find that I've lost my family.  My main aim is going to be to capture the parades, the characters, the people, the castle, amusements etc etc.  And, seeing as I love fireworks so much, I'm going to be gutted if I don't come home with decent images of them....going to try not to panic, I can do it!

My equipment that I shall be using will be my Nikon D90, a tripod (for macro and firework images), a full battery, an 8gb memory card.  My current lenses consist of a Nikon 18-105mm, a Nikon 55-200mm and a Tamron 90mm macro lens.  I may need my lens hoods for taking images in sunlight.

My safety considerations would have to be to watch where I was putting my tripod in public, and to make sure that people didn't trip over the legs of it.  Make sure that my camera and myself are safe around water.
